Charminster Village Hall Duck Race 2016

The Duck Race - 23rd April 2016.

We had sunshine! We had ducks, dragons and a couple of stalwart St Georges! Thank you to all the Mums and Dads who worked so hard on costumes and to the children who took part in the Fancy Dress Competition.

The winner was Autumn Morgan, second were Lillie-Mai Brueton and Jacob Philips, third was Robyn Philpott. Miss Eliza Oxley presented the prizes and chocolate eggs were enjoyed by all.

The children were then joined at Alley Bridge by a good crowd who watched 500 ducks set sail at 11 a.m. The flotilla gained pace as it approached the new bridge, with one obvious leader. Stragglers were helped on their way.

First duck home - Mr Keith Bashford

Second duck home - Mrs A Rayment

Last duck home – Ms Julie Plummer

We raised £350 for Village Hall funds. Thanks to Celia Davies for all her hard work in staging the event, Len Ahern for launching the race, Kevin Guppy and Chris Davies for getting cold feet as they trapped the ducks on arrival (four escaped – keep your eyes open in Dorchester!), and Miss Oxley for once again letting us invade her garden.

"To everyone who sold ducks and bought ducks – we couldn’t have done it without you."

Chris Shaw (Chairman)
