Charminster: dog 'n' duck!
Well what an afternoon!
We set up for the day in the damp and drizzle of the morning, but the ducks didn’t mind and as they were thrown into the river and slowly made their way downstream the sun started to break through. With a smell of BBQ hotdogs in the air, the ducks appeared from under East Hill bridge into the grounds of Charminster House.
Being encouraged along by their hopeful sponsors with much cheering and shouting the winning duck eventually passed the finishing line with several hundred of his friends in hot pursuit.
After a short break for people to enjoy a hotdog...or two, buy a raffle ticket and select a category for their four legged friends it was on with the dog show.
Sarah from Hillcrest Kennels certainly didn’t have an easy judging task with so many fantastic dogs to choose from.
The winning pooches gradually emerged from the arena proudly wearing their rosettes and the overall best in show was awarded to a lovely little Pekingese called ‘Bodie’.
At the end of a fun packed afternoon Charminster Village Hall refurbishment fund received the £722.06 profits from the day and we realised that a dog show wasn’t such a bad idea after all !
Thank you to everyone who came along, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did, and a special thank you to those who helped and supported us to make the day such a fantastic success.
Until next year...
Andrea and Nina
